About us

The concept of the The Parent’s Companion started nearly 20 years ago when Rebecca Collier (CTA) was working as a nanny in private homes around the world. Parents would increasingly approach Rebecca for support with various parenting challenges they were facing in raising their children. This varied from babies with sleep concerns and school age children with eating challenges.

Rebecca quickly realised that there was very little support out there for parents, the ‘usual’ extended family or neighbourly helping hand wasn’t there and more often parents desired an outside view from someone that would listen and offer non judgemental support. Rebecca thought to herself ‘Why isn’t there such a thing as a parenting school, for parents to gain insights and guidance, without feeling like they were any less of a parent?’.

Some years later Rebecca moved to New Zealand where parenting classes were just part of life, as antenatal classes are here in the UK. Rebecca volunteered at The Parenting Place – originating in Auckland, a charity for families, creating and delivering resources for parents at every age and stage.

After returning to the UK, Rebecca decided to launch her own parenting consultancy business, where parents could source experienced, professional, child development based insights into the areas they were struggling with and in 2016 she launched full time.

In 2022 Rebecca decided that the concept needed to be bigger so that more families could be supported and in 2023 she officially launched her company, The Parent’s Companion, a place where the delivery of parenting courses, one-on-one parent coaching, parenting talks, media

interviews, articles and online resources to inspire, equip and support families in self regulation, building connection, finding self compassion and empathy for themselves and their children.

We believe that through using a peaceful parenting approach and emotion coaching, every family can benefit from accessing evidence based parenting information, as well as receiving much needed encouragement, compassion and understanding. And reminding ourselves that loving families can transform communities, and in turn the world.

Meet Rebecca, our Founder and Head Parenting Consultant

There are many versions of a happy, thriving family. The support I provide is shaped around you and based on what I see in front of me.

  • Classically trained at Norland College 25 years ago, the science of emotional coaching and brain development increasingly dominates my approach.
  • Spending 15 years supporting families in nannying positions has given me the experience to always address the nuances of specific situations.
  • My outlook was strongly shaped by years spent in New Zealand where parenting coaching and support is as embedded in the journey of becoming a parent as antenatal classes.
  • I became a full-time parenting consultant in 2016 and continually work to develop my awareness of the science and emerging approaches around child development and parental support.
  • I’m currently completing a course with Dr Laura Markham, the founder of the Peaceful Parenting Model.
  • If you’d like to get more of a feel for how I work with families, please get in touch for references.

The M-C Family

Rebecca would always comfort us with her calm, soothing approach. Our son took to her immediately. At times, being a nervous first-time mother, it was hard for me to see things in a methodical way, often jumping to assumptions, but Rebecca always had a very reassuring, confident way of seeing things. I learnt a lot from her, she always stood there reassuring me, yet letting me try to do as much as I felt comfortable with on my own without always offering to step in.
